Preventative Dentistry
At McCall Family Dentistry, we believe that prevention is the key to achieving and maintaining optimum oral health. This is why Dr. Jim and Dr. Ryan like to see our patients every six months or twice per year.
With these visits, we can ensure that we detect any oral health issues such as oral cancer, periodontal (gum) disease, or tooth decay in their earliest stages. This gives you the best chance of recovery with the least invasive treatment.
Periodontal Health and Preventative Care
Because of emerging studies, we now understand the important connection between periodontal health and your overall health and well-being. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, has been linked with other health concerns in the body such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke. We know that the bacteria that cause gum disease can enter your bloodstream, travel to other areas of your body, and contribute to the inflammation that causes these other conditions.
Prevention is your best line of defense against periodontal disease since regular visits allow Dr. Jim and Dr. Ryan to detect it in its earliest stages. We’ll screen you at every check-up appointment, and if we detect gingivitis (the early stage of gum disease), we can help you effectively manage it with a thorough cleaning and improved home care.
If you notice that your gums are red and swollen or bleed when you brush your teeth, please contact us right away. These are early indicators of gingivitis, and we encourage you to schedule a cleaning and check-up with McCall Family Dentistry.
For patients suffering from periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease, we provide a deeper cleaning that reaches below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar build-up. We may recommend antibiotic therapies and additional cleanings throughout the year as well to help you keep gum disease at bay
